The Stewart Stand
>> Background Information

Back to Belmore Incorporated, a non-profit organisation and grassroots movement, was formed in April 2005 by Luke Brailey, Luke Cevolani, Mark Cevolani, Tony Karam, Joe Karam, Joseph Moses and Steven Cataldi - seven lifelong residents of the Canterbury-Bankstown district - following the Bulldogs' intentions to leave
Belmore by the end of the decade.
Back to Belmore's primary objective is to upgrade Belmore Sports Ground to a premiere venue for top level sporting events in Sydney. The secondary objective is to make the historic venue a permanent and financially sustainable home for the Cantebrury-Bankstown Bulldogs, Sydney Olympic FC and many other local sporting groups. |
|
The Back to Belmore committee is dedicated to overseeing the preservation and restoration of Belmore Sports Ground.
The fundamental philosophy behind upgrading BSG is that the capacity of the ground is to remain the same (at about 25,000 spectators), while
the facilities to accommodate them are greatly improved. Coupled to this is the notion that our spiritual kennel is only part of the overall
community asset of Belmore, and as such improvements should be made in the whole area. |
|
Back to Belmore Inc. believes that we need greater community awareness and an informed debate on Belmore Sports Ground. The devastating, long-term effects of neglect, dilapidation and deterioration can be seen at Belmore Sports Ground today. It clearly demonstrates what lasting damage has been caused by the Bulldogs’ abandonment of their traditional heartland if we do not act immediately. If Belmore Sports Ground is not allocated State and Federal Government funding for a significant upgrade, it will create a bleak future for the Canterbury–Bankstown area. |
Back to Belmore Inc. has put forward a plan to address the totally unacceptable state of Belmore Sports Ground, in particular through bolstering public support for State and Federal Government funding to upgrade our spiritual home. The Back to Belmore committee has outlined a clear set of initiatives to ensure a top-class sporting facility that the Bulldogs and Sydney Olympic FC can call home again.
|
Belmore Sports Ground is a community asset, one rich in tradition and history, and needs to be maintained. We need to have a clear vision for the sustainable development of this important public asset for future generations, so our juniors can aspire towards playing at their local venue. Community facilities like Belmore Sports Ground must be multi-functional and meet the needs of a growing and increasingly diverse population.

|
Back to Belmore Inc. calls upon the Federal and State Governments to allocate funding to upgrade Belmore Sports Ground and a Steering Committee to be set up to administer the funds in an open and transparent manner. The Back to Belmore committee requests that both Federal and State Government delegates work together with the Bulldogs Rugby League Club, Sydney Olympic FC and Canterbury Council to ensure Belmore Sports Ground is redeveloped for future generations. |
|
All communities deserve sporting venues. If we don't act on Belmore now, it will create a bleak future for our aspiring sports players. This is the right time to fix this amazing facility and propel our future sports players toward a brighter future.
With the right combination of strong leadership, significant funding and community support, we can restore Belmore Sports Ground to a standard of excellence that would be insurpassable.
