In My View - December 2005

Going to Telstra Stadium with a 2005 average crowd of 18,000 cheering the Doggies on during an NRL game is okay but sitting on the Terry Lamb family hill at Belmore Sports Ground, drinking soft drink and eating meat pies and being surround by rugby leagues' fair dinkum fans was a top afternoon all round.

Whether you were just a kid playing for your school, or a first grader playing for the Bulldogs, Belmore Sports Ground left its mark on you. The Bulldogs played on an oval steeped in tradition that prompted supporters of visiting teams to say, "What a wonderful ground this is, the best in Sydney."

So, having finally achieved this, having finally gotten a football ground that attracted record crowds that obviously enjoyed going there, why would the club want to move away from their spiritual kennel? I loved sitting on the hill with my family and all those fans who followed the Bulldogs for years. It's an emotional thing, following your footy team.
