Letter from The Hon Sandra Nori MP,
Minister of Tourism and Sport and Recreation
October 3, 2006
Dear Mr Brailey,
Thank you for your letter regarding your campaign to procure Commonwealth Government funding to upgrade the Belmore Sports Ground.
The provision of major sporting facilities is important as they can become a focal point for a community to meet and support their local team. Funding decisions by Governments at all levels for such facilities requires an assessment of priorities against competing needs, such as health and education.
The NSW Government has provided funding for a number of Rugby League facility upgrades in the past, where funds were available. The Government also recently committed over $3 million to support development of the game at junior levels.
NSW Sport and Recreation supports a range of sports on an annual basis through its Sport Development, Capital Assistance and Regional Sports Facilities Programs. The two facility development grant programs assist with the construction of community oriented local and major sport and recreation facilities throughout NSW. Both programs require the applicant to fund at least fifty percent of the net project cost.
I have forwarded your correspondence to the Premier for his consideration.
I trust this information is of assistance.
Yours Sincerely
SANDRA NORI MP
Minister for Tourism and Sport and Recreation
Minister for Women
Minister Assisting the Minister for State Development
